Select Soccer is a great environment for competitiveness and high-level skills training. Players looking to play more competitively than recreational soccer, and who wish to play in high school and possibly college should seriously consider joining a Select team, as there is an increased chance for high-level development.
How does my child join a select team?
Select differs from recreational soccer, in that select players are selected by teams through a tryout system and are assigned to that team for 1 soccer calendar year, August – July.
What events are included, if my child makes a select team?
Activities throughout the select soccer calendar year include, but are not limited to:
Fall Season – Practices & 8 Game Season
1 Fall or Spring Tournament
Indoor Winter Season – Practices & Indoor Games
Spring Season – Practices & 8 Game Season
How far are games?
Although considered travel soccer, select teams play 95% of games within an hour or less of Middletown, PA.
Other things to know:
Any players considering making the jump to a traveling team should be made aware of the following:
Select soccer can be more expensive than recreational soccer. Olmsted works to keep our cost down as an alternative to other more expensive clubs, but cost such as uniforms, tournaments and training should be expected.
There is no guarantee of playing time during games. Coaches work to get every player as much time on the field and as many touches on the ball as possible, but there are no guarantees.
Rules are generally more closely related to high school and college soccer and governed by U.S. Soccer.
